Briggs & Stratton’s goal is to provide landscapers with the power they need to get the job done, and the company’s latest practical innovation is designed to create considerable savings for them as well.
Revealed at GIE+EXPO, the Vanguard Oil Guard System has been designed with a large remote oil reservoir that is outside the engine and comes with several advantages. The design features an aluminum welded tank that holds more oil, increasing maintenance intervals by five times.
Access to the oil filter and drain tube are direct and simple, lessening the amount of downtime for maintenance.
“It’s very simple, a tool-less system that’s about a 10-minute oil change versus a 30- to 40-minute oil change,” said Jim Cross, commercial marketing manager from Briggs & Stratton.
The Oil Guard System allows for larger oil filters, and because the oil is protected from thermal breakdown, the engine runs cooler.
This new technology was developed in cooperation with commercial mower brand Ferris over a span of four years. The Oil Guard System will be available on the Vanguard 810 and Big Block engines for Ferris brand mowers first.
“The reason the Oil Guard System is important for commercial cutters is it really delivers three great productivity enhancing benefits,” Cross said. “One is, it extends the recommended oil change from 100 hours to 500 hours, which is a typical season for commercial cutters. The second thing is, it delivers an incredible amount of savings – up to 60 percent savings just in hard costs – not including the downtime savings for a commercial cutter to be down for an oil change. And the third thing is, it’s a faster, easier oil change.”
Briggs & Stratton also noted at GIE that it now offers nine horsepower options for its commercial series V-Twin engines, ranging from 16 to 27 gross horsepower in three engine models, with displacements of 656cc, 724cc and 810cc.
Designed to keep dirt and debris out, the engines come with longer filter intervals, tool-less covers, debris inspection ports, drop-in filters and a spring-loaded snap.
“The Commercial Series engines are made to start on command and combat debris-related problems that are prevalent on many jobsites so contractors can keep their equipment running stronger all day long without interruption,” Cross said.
